Mysore(Mysooru) is a shopper's paradise. In addition to the beautiful Mysore(Mysooru) crepe silk sarees, sandalwood oil and soaps, the city is famous for sandalwood and rosewood carved ivory inlaid handicrafts and toys, agarbattis (incense sticks) and the delicious Mysore(Mysooru) 'Pak'. The main shopping areas are Krishnaraja Circle, Devaraj Urs Road, Sayyaji Rao Road, Ashoka Road and Dhanvantri Road.
Krishnaraja Circle : Krishnaraja Circle alias KR circle is one of the best shopping centers of Mysore(Mysooru). Located in the heart of the city, it lies at the north-western corner of Mysore(Mysooru) Palace. Established in 1950, the statue of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar is the main attraction of the circle. The statue consists of a hexagonal umbrella and a ribbed dome over it. The circle also forms the intersecting point of Sayyaji Rao Road, Albert Victor Road and Devaraj Urs Road.
Government Silk Weaving Factory : The government silk factory is at Jhansi Lakshmibai Road. The Maharaja of Mysore(Mysooru) created this factory in 1932 to obtain the finest hand-loomed silks for himself and his royal family. Today it is run by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation. Here you can see craftsmen at work and also buy silk, fresh from the looms. The Factory has a show-room in its premises at the Manandavadi Road and also at the shopping area of K.R. Circle. Cauvery Arts And Crafts Emporium : Cauvery Arts And Crafts Emporium is located on the Sayyaji Rao Road. It provides genuine handicrafts articles like ivory, sandalwood carving, silver and brassware etc.
